George Curzon's book "Persia and the Persian Question" is published by  Longmans, Green, and Co., London.  In this book Curzon describes the Mandaeans of Khuzestan.

1881
Abd al-Ghaffar Najm al-Mulk described the Sabians in his travelogue.

1875
N. Siouffi learned about the Mandaeans from the grandson of Yahia Bihram.

1870

In 1870 the Mandaeans in the cities of Shushtar, Dezful, and Shawali were attacked by their neighbors and the majority fled south to Muhammarah which is called today  Khorramshahr.  A small minority from Shawali went to Ahwaz.e Massacre at Shushtar

Heinrich Petermann visits Suq es-Shuyuk

1833
Naval Lieutenant Ormsby was in Hit for 5 days where he ascertained that there was a Mandaean community there with a priest.  He was unable to find out anything except for the most meager details.

Sometime after 1831 and before 1833

Yahia-Bihram and Ram Zihrun, sons of priests, took it upon themselves to baptize each other to the status of priest. This was done to rescue the Mandaean religion from extinction.

1831
The Mandaeans suffered a terrible devastation that could have doomed the religion and culture. A cholera epidemic spread like wildfire throughout the Mandaean priesthood. The last of the ancient priest hood- a nasiruta dies.
